the first scene shows a beautiful snowy day, as seen out of a window... then the camera backs up to show a beautiful girl in a white nightgown sitting in her chair, reading. as the lyrics start, she glances towards the window, then rises and walks to it, peering out upon the splendour of the day, looking a little sad. as she rests her head against the window, the view shifts to a boy, with his head leaning against the window, also looking sad... (at "you're a secret noticed") he looks up to the snowing sky, and it turns to rain. the camera pans down to a different scene - a spring rainfall on a pond. then you see a different couple sitting on a bench, kissing. the camera pans down to the pond showing white swans swimming around, then underwater to see large goldfish...
(chorus) you see the inside of a goldfish bowl, and as the camera backs up, you see d'arcy, feeding the fish. then we see billy, who is sitting at a desk, writing. and you see james sitting a a table, eating breakfast. as you look around the room, you see a 12-string guitar and a piano. the camera focuses in on billy, and you see what he's writing... it's the lyrics to the song. then, as one, the pumpkins all look slowly out the window to see it start to snow. ("and if i could") you see a group of children playing in the snow, laughing and having a great time. then we see the boy (from the window) walk past the children with his hands in his pockets. he looks up to the gray sky and an image of the girl appears in the sky. ("medellia of my eyes") the girl gets up from her chair again, and walks slowly to the window, looking out at the world... she looks down and sees the boy, standing outside, looking up at her. she smiles, seeing he has written "i love you" in the snow. she runs downstairs and outside, where the couple embraces.
